Driving While Black

 

In this deeply personal VR film, which is part of a larger series on various forms of Unconscious Bias, director Julian Marshall takes us through the experience of Driving While Black. This is just one of the many ways, both subtle and overt, that life is different for those of us living in America, having been born with black skin. The overarching goal of the Unconscious Bias series is to help viewers see the world through the lens of people different than themselves - to help viewers grow in both empathy and understanding.

 

Audiences were able to view this film and the others in the Unconscious Bias series through event-based experiences. A tour bus went around to college campuses, concerts, and art festivals around the country showcasing these films via VR headsets. Other content we crafted included mixed reality mirror experiences and AR content. One of the notable stops on the tour was SXSW.
