Photo Favorite: Flori Flower Photography

What do you think? Image A or image B?

So what is Photo Favorite? Photo Favorite is where we ask you (that means YOU) for your help choosing between two separate but similar images. As proud parents of each of our photos, it can be difficult to pick the final image(s) for a project. We’ve done this a few times in the past, and I love the interaction and feedback that comes from it. After all, the photos we produce are meant for your enjoyment… so who better to ask than those people the shots are intended for?

You’d be surprised at how many images never make it into the final campaign,  catalog, or website. We come back from photo shoots with hundreds (if not thousands) of shots that inevitably get weeded down to twenty-to-forty final selected photos. For our commercial photography, we sit down with agency creatives, brand managers, or art directors to help sift through the images. In this case however, I’m working on a personal project of flower photography called FLORI – and I’m the only cook in the kitchen. So that means YOU are the Art Directors!

Here are two very similar photos of the same Spider Mum flower. They are both lit and toned in the exact same fashion. In fact, they were taken only seconds apart. The only difference is that one is a full shot and the other is a close-up of the base of the flower.

My dilemma is this – I love both shots! The full shot has beautiful form and would look great as a large print. Yet, I love the close-up for its fine detail and how it draws your eye to the base of the flower. However, only one of the shots can make in in the final collection of photographs…so that’s where you come in.

I need your help deciding between 2 photos. Close-up with fine details… or the full shot that focuses on form?

close up – it shows the amazing fine intricacies of this flower, and the finger-print of God – who else could have designed that??
